Library Receives Bequest from the Estate of Claire Doss Simmons

Claire Doss Simmons, in her Last Will and Testament, left a bequest in the amount of $10,000 to the Whitewright Public Library, in the memory of the Doss Simmons Family.

Mrs. Simmons died June 6, 2005, at the age of 83, and at the time of her death, had no immediate family. Her estate also left bequests for the Whitewright Ambulance Service, the Whitewright Masonic Lodge, the First United Methodist Church and the Oak Hill Cemetary Association.

The donation to the library has been placed in the New Building Fund, and is half of the money required to pay the architect for technical drawings needed to begin the next phase of the project.

aunt claire and uncle james were always special to me as well as the rest of our family.you see,my roots go back to whitewright and that area.that house across from the carls tasty sausage,(when my wife and me went to aunt claires funeral it was up on blocks)anyway that house is where my sister and me spent all our summers and chrismas'my great grandmother lived in that house.ther was a man in a wheelchair lived beside her that sold firecrackers.so when you people wrote in here that she had no family at the time of her death, you are so wrong.aunt claire was ethel's simmons daughter-in-law.the people who took care of my aunt never told us of her failing health till after she died.they used her house as a dog grooming place and DID NOT take care of the home.she has lots of family left(martha ray, jimmie williams, gene williams, vicki klein and i am jack ray,samaraipainter@yahoo.com )also capt.john parrish buried in van austyne cemetary ,another relative of ours,he rode beside Gen.Longstreet and Stonewall Jackson.i had thought of moving to whitewright to spend the rest of my years on earth and go to 1st baptist church just like when i was a kid.i just the library should know and perhaps straighten this out because all of do exist and we do care what is written about aunt claire.

The statement is correct -- immediate family refers only to parents, siblings and children. This is also how it's stated in her obituary -- "There are no immediate survivors."

No offense was meant to her extended family (which would include daughter-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc.).
