| The Anime Club will meet on Thursday, December 13 at 5 p.m.
Anime ADVocates is being revamped, so we don’t have a new disc this month. We’re going to watch some titles from previous months this time. As always, please feel free to bring your own drinks and/or snacks.
Titles for this month are:
Jinki: Extend [TV-PG] (Episode 1 & 2) Up until now, 13-year-old Aoba Tsuzaki has been content to spend hours holed up in her room building plastic robots. But that was before she was recruited to join an elite fighting squad targeting the evil Ancient Jinki. This anime series follows Aoba's quest to save the Earth, and her eventual loss of innocence as her passion for constructing robots morphs into a life-or-death nightmare of epic proportions.
Madlax [TV-14] (Episodes 1 & 2) At first glance, female hired gun Madlax and naively unassuming student Margaret appear to have nothing in common. But they've recently discovered that their seemingly different lives cross at one deadly point. Now, they must uncover and solve a perplexing puzzle before the dark forces opposing them end their lives. Will the knowledge of their preordained doom -- and their self-imposed task -- bind them together or pull them apart?

| The Anime Club will meet on Thursday, November 8th at 5 p.m. This month we have: Pumpkin Scissors [TV-14] (Episodes 1 & 2) In a time and place unmistakably similar to interwar Western Europe, Lt. Alice Malvin leads an army division nicknamed "Pumpkin Scissors." Despite mockery from superiors, the ragtag team manages to expose corruption and cover-ups. Plot twists come fast and furious as Malvin and her crew dig up a top secret government plan involving a super-soldier program. Echoes of World War II play heavily into this anime war adventure. Yugo the Negotiator [TV-14] (Episode 1) Recruited by foreign governments and individuals to help rescue and return political hostages, Yugo Beppu (aka "The Negotiator") spends a lot of his time in the Middle East, where his unconventional techniques reap big rewards. These episodes from the realistically rendered anime series follow Yugo's adventures abroad, including an attempt to pry a young woman's father from the clutches of Pakistani rebels. Welcome to the NHK [TV-MA] (Episode 1) Unemployed 22-year-old conspiracy theorist Satou Tatsuhiro rarely leaves his apartment, relying on an allowance from his parents and venturing out only at night. But when quirky young Misaki comes to his door, she claims she can help the recluse. Soon, the two begin a series of odd psychological lessons in the local park aimed at reconnecting Satou with the world. This anime adaptation is based on Tatsuhiko Takimoto's novel and manga series. | |

| Meeting times and places:
Bells - Meet @ the Kells’ residence, 8 a.m. Whitewright - Meet @ the library, 8:15 a.m. Those departing from Bells will go to the library to meet up with the rest -- even if you are driving on your own, please meet at the library at 8:15 so we can stay together. We will travel to the DART Bush Turnpike station located at1300 East President George Bush Turnpike (Bush Turnpike frontage road east of North Central Expressway and west of Plano Road). You can view a detailed map here. The Adam’s Mark Hotel is located between Pearl Station and St. Paul Station in Dallas. We should arrive at the con and have our tickets by around 11:00 a.m. You can preview the con schedule to see if there are any particular events you’d like to see. The dealer’s room (where stuff is for sale) closes at 6 p.m., so we will start our exit at 5 p.m. and depart by 6:00 at the latest. After we return to the DART station, we will be going to the Genghis Grill located in front of Collin Creek Mall. They serve a “make your own” stir-fry – you’ll get to pick the meat, veggies, and sauce – and the chefs will stir fry it for you. Our departure time at the con and how busy the restaurant is will affect our return time, but we should be back the Whitewright/Bells by around 9 p.m. If parent(s) want to call for an update but if their child doesn’t have a phone, you can call Chris at 903-821-7448. Don’t Forget! - You’ll need $35 payable at the convention door for your ticket.
- Either bring money for a snack at lunch, or you can bring your own – you can bring a backpack, waist pack, etc. We recommend not taking purses or totebags, as it’s difficult to keep up with them at a busy con. It’s much easier to keep up with something that stays with you.
- You’ll need $10 for dinner – this will be given to the adult chaperone at the beginning of the day, so it won’t be spent in the dealer’s room. J
- You must keep your con ID with you at all times (in most cases it’s a name badge); this is your pass into the various rooms at the convention, and if you lose it, you will have to pay for a replacement.
- You can bring a camera, but some parts of the con may restrict video/photos.
- Check out the FAQ on A-Kon’s website for more general “What’s a con like?” questions if you’ve never been before. Both adult chaperones have been to many sci fi/fantasy cons over the years and will also answer any questions you have, though some questions may have answers specific to A-Kon that we won’t be able to answer.

A single day pass is $35.00 (for age 13+, $15 for under 13) and includes a program book, e-newsletter, lanyard & goodie bag (generally filled with freebie items such as buttons and comics). This is payable to A-Kon at the door. A parent info sheet is also available (both are Word documents). This count will be used to determine transportation needs to get everyone to the Plano DART station, where we will board a Dart train to the Adam's Mark Hotel in downtown Dallas. If you are willing to chaperone and/or help with transportation, please contact the library. For more information, contact the library at 903-364-2955 or email librarian@whitewright.lib.tx.us.
