June 29th - Anime ADVocates Sampler Disc This disc from ADV Films contains episodes of the following:
Petite Princes Yucie: This charming anime centers on Yucie, a fun-seeking girl who's 17 years old but looks as if she's barely a teenager. In spite of this, she manages to stay sweet and jolly, until she discovers she's being considered for the ultimate role as the Platina Princess. That's when the pressure mounts as she realizes she must compete with a slew of girls like her who want to be granted their most important wish, putting Yucie in the fight of her life. Sister Princess: Wataru Minakami can't wait to get into high school and continue his streak of good luck with his fabulous grade point average. But the unexpected happens when he's turned away from his school of choice after failing the entrance exam! Suddenly, Wataru finds himself being sent to a special school at a place called Promised Island. He starts to wonder why he's really there, until he meets his 13 long-lost sisters and all is revealed. Wandaba Style: Lady Luck takes a surprising and fortuitous turn when unknown girl group Mix Juice joins forces with scientific whiz kid Susumo Tsukumo and becomes the first band to perform on the lunar surface (that's right, the moon). After the gig, will the quartet -- Ayame, Yuri, Sakura and Himawari -- skyrocket up the intergalactic charts? Or will the foursome freeze to death in the lonely void of space?
July 6th - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Based on the popular manga, this anime series explores a futuristic society where technology reigns supreme, along with new types of crime. Female cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi and her team of police, Section 9, devote their lives to chasing criminals, both on land and in cyberspace. In these episodes, the team must figure out the secret behind a spate of android suicides, stop a far-reaching hacker conspiracy, solve a hostage situation and more!
July 13th - Read or Die Yomiko Readman may appear to be a just a quiet, head-in-the-clouds substitute teacher with a mammoth collection of books, but Yomiko is no ordinary bookworm. She is also a secret agent working for the Royal British Library's Division of Special Operations. Books may seem like a tame skill to have as an operative but Yomiko is actually a Paper User; a person who can manipulate any paper with psychokinetic powers. She can make a paper ribbon stronger than a steel cable, make an origami swan fly away, or stop bullets with an index card. After buying an extremely rare book to add to her collection one day, Yomiko is accosted by an old man flying on a giant cricket who steals it. This is book is more than just a good read, as the British Library assigns Yomiko a new partner, Nancy Makuhari, and sends her on a mission to get the book back.
The program is technically open to all ages, but some programs may not be suitable for children under 13. If you (or your parents) have any questions, feel free to email or call the library. | |
